Tempe is a 40 square mile city located in the East Valley of the Sun, and is generally considered to be both a college town, home to Arizona State University, (thus popular with students and young professionals), and a family-friendly city, thanks to its many parks and planned communities. There is a wide range of homes in Tempe. For example, Camelot Village, contains 300 mid-priced family homes in a more walkable, urban type of neighborhood. Another subdivision, the Lakes in Tempe, is a neighborhood of townhouses, single-family and custom homes, many on one of two lakes in the middle of this community. The Lakes has a community clubhouse as well as tennis and volleyball courts. Tempe is also home to a bustling arts community, thanks to Tempe’s Center for the Arts as well as its art festivals. Mill Avenue, a street in Tempe near ASU, is a popular destination for students as well as young professionals thanks to its many restaurants, bars and shops. Other major attractions and destinations in Tempe include the Phoenix Zoo, Desert Botanical Garden and Big Surf Waterpark, as well as Arizona State University.
Fitness and outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the Papago Park, Tempe Town Lake and the Tempe Beach Park. Tempe is also home to the annual P.F. Chang’s Marathon and Half-Marathon which occur in January. Papago and South Mountain Parks offer opportunities to hike, mountain bike and rock climb. Golfers enjoy the Papago Golf Course, the Ken McDonald Golf Course, and the Rolling Hills Golf Course.
Shopping options within Tempe include the popular Tempe Marketplace, IKEA, and the expansive Arizona Mills outlet mall. Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is located just 2 miles from Tempe. Tempe is bounded by three major freeways: the 202, the 101 and Interstate 10.
Schools: Several school districts serve Tempe including the Tempe Elementary and the Tempe Union High School Districts as well as Kyrene School District and Scottsdale Unified School District.
